Inspiring and informative in equal and large measure. They all loved canonical literature just as much as Harold Bloom, I venture to say.

Jan 18, Elena rated it really liked it Shelves: Bloom and I do not have the same taste in literature, it precisely the types of qualities in individual pieces, political and romantic that he despises that I adore, however when he finally begins to de-construct classics such as Joyce, the Russian novelists, and Shakespeare his brilliance and candour are remarkable.

He idolizes Shakespeare, and makes an almost convincing case for us to do the same. With great solemnity, he predicted this was in that the Western world was about to enter into a new cultural era, a new Theocratic Age, wherein dogmatism would drive occidenyale aesthetic criteria from literature departments.

I might not be a good reader, but unlike so many others, at least I friggin’ try to be one.
